JOB SUMMARY
The WordPress Front-End Developer is the person that will assist in overseeing design and direction elements of the front-end development for the APH Web site (www.aph.org). The WordPress Front-End Developer reports to the Director of the Creative Services.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The WordPress Front-End Developer is the person that will assist in overseeing design and direction elements of the front-end development for the APH Web site (www.aph.org). This person works with APH staff from all departments, but receives final approval from Directors of Communication/Innovation (content) or Director of Creative Services (design) to gather and edit information for updating new and existing web pages. Always continue to research new web functionality for ways of improving accessibility within APH.org. This position requires in-depth technical skills, as well as the ability to identify situations that may impact shopping experience, the ability to edit copy when errors are identified, possess graphic design skills to create web pages for resizing images when needed, strong organizational skills, and good human-relations skills. The WordPress Front-End Developer reports to the Director of the Creative Services in the Dot6 Department.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Web Design: As a part of APH's web team, this position takes on many tasks related to website development, management, and maintenance. WordPress Front-End Developer’s daily duties include design, and building and maintaining the front end of WordPress websites. Creates new web pages incorporating HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript elements; maintains/updates existing pages; ensures that the content of all web pages is fully accessible to users who are disabled. Designs new sections of the APH website, such as product landing pages when needed. Reviews website on an ongoing basis for updates, such as staff changes, out of date content, etc. Reviews website for functionality and recommends corrections/improvements. Continually refines website design based on staff and customer feedback. The WordPress Front-End Developer is required to continually learn new software and techniques in the rapidly changing environment of the web. Tests websites for accessibility on an ongoing basis.
- Website Development and Accessibility: The WordPress Front-End Developer continually researches and implements new functions for the APH website. Strong knowledge in accessibility is mandatory, and will be a required learning for this position as processes and technology evolve.
- Google Analytics: Must possess strong skillset for Website tracking statistics and trends using tools such as Google Analytics. Understand and manipulate data about our web site that can be used to enhance our marketing and business development strategies. Most important areas of focus: users, dimensions, metrics, bounce rate, and sessions.
- Google AdWords: The WordPress Front-End Developer is responsible for creating effective AdWords campaigns to boost search results. Keeps current with the latest trends and techniques for creating effective ads and helps builds strategies for the Innovation and Communication team’s needs. Knowledge of Google Ad Word Grants management is a plus.
- Administrative Duties: Meets with directors and staff of APH’s Communication and Innovations Department to facilitate the creation of website content by learning their objectives and guiding them towards possible solutions; schedule and plan complex web projects and coordinate timeline/campaign for social media posts; responds to user questions and comments about the website; and maintain other internal Websites and other web pages owned by APH.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- A demonstrated commitment to process improvement; training in Adobe best-practices are beneficial. Prior experience in a graphic design environment desired.
- Strong project management experience and a high level of attention to detail. Familiarity with Jira a plus.
- A high level of knowledge and comfort working with the Adobe Creative Cloud programs particularly Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, and Photoshop.
- A High level of understanding for accessibility is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately make decisions on most cost-effective ways to produce marketing or promotional materials.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to communicate effectively with staff and external constituents. - High level of diplomacy, with experience bridging various divisions within large, complex organizations.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
