2020 American Advertising Awards Gala

Mar 3, 2020

Louisville, KY – On Friday, February 28th, the American Advertising Federation – Louisville (AAF – Louisville) hosted its premier creative competition, the 2020 American Advertising Awards, for the 46th consecutive year. Each year, the awards ceremony and gala recognizes outstanding creative work in the areas of advertising and marketing and presents winners with coveted ADDY awards.

This year’s gala was held at the Louisville Palace Theater and boasted over 200 attendees. Over 80 ADDY awards were presented to 17 local companies, agencies, individuals, and schools.

The ADDYs are awarded in two categories, Gold and Silver. There are also special categories including Best of Show, Judge’s Choice awards, and The People’s Choice Award which are determined by attendees on the night of the gala. AAF – Louisville also presented one Local Only Award – “Culturally Legit” – which recognizes local advertising creative that authentically represents diversity in culture.

“Louisville is a well-known hub for some of the best and brightest creatives in the industry,” said Allison Deely, Executive Director for AAF-Louisville. “Whether it’s a local organization, a school, or a large agency – our creative professionals are in a class of their own. AAF looks forward to recognizing these professionals, and showcasing their work, each year at the American Advertising Awards.”

Winning an ADDY is the first step in the three-tiered American Advertising Awards process. The second step is the District 5 competition, with winners competing against other advertising clubs in Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia. District winners will be eligible to move to the third tier of the competition for a chance to be recognized on a national level.

Judging for The American Advertising Awards is a two-step process. The digital portion of the competition was judged remotely, and the remaining entries were judged in-person in Louisville. This year’s judges included: Sophia Latto, senior principal at Blackbaud, Gordon Robertson founder/creative of Hullabaloo Agency, and Andie Bowers-Smith, art direction discipline at Weber Shandwick Chicago.
