JOB DESCRIPTION

The Digital Media Specialist is a contributing member of our Communications Team. This position is perfect for a communications professional with a variety of skills – but will primarily be responsible for social media management and content creation across our digital channels (social, website, and email). A candidate with experience in graphic design, photography, and/or videography is highly preferred. Under minimal supervision, this full-time position reports to the VP of Communications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Oversight of all social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, SnapChat, LinkedIn) – including engagement, maintaining a content calendar, content creation, generating graphics and images, implementing contests and promotions, scheduling, and live posting from events and programs.
  • Works with the Communications and Marketing Teams to strategize and execute digital media campaigns to increase brand awareness, promote events and programs, support recruitment efforts, engage our attendees and participants, and share the Kentucky Derby Festival story
  • Expands following and engagement across all platforms; generates monthly reports on digital media platforms sharing tracking and metrics.
  • Stays current on new social media and communications technology and how to use for Kentucky Derby Festival.
  • Works with Communications and Marketing Teams to identify local influencer prospects, opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships and build relationships for long-term community.
  • Supports development of content and graphics for Festival’s four websites, e-communications, and other digital software programs supporting communications efforts.
  • Assists with managing Kentucky Derby Festival photo archive; serve as photographer when needed.
  • Collaborates with the Communications, Marketing, Sponsorship, Merchandise and Event Teams to explore new promotions, new methods of outreach and ideas for upcoming campaigns.
  • Provides editing/proofreading support for all Kentucky Derby Festival Communications.
  • Supports communications team with other duties as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in digital media, communications, marketing, or graphic design preferred. 3+ years of experience in social media and/or digital marketing.
  • A combination of education and experience may be substituted when proficiency is demonstrated.
  • Experience managing a brand’s social media presence across multiple channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, SnapChat, etc.), including content calendar development, scheduling and analytics (Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Later, etc.)
  • Exceptional writing skills with a style to communicate the voice of the organization.
  • Experience in new communications technologies, web analytics, layout and design, digital photo and video
  • General web content management experience and familiarity with basic HTML (Wordpress, Joomla, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience in building mass marketing email communications (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, etc.)
  • Demonstrated success in exceeding goals, including deadlines, performance, etc.
  • Knowledge of the Kentucky Derby Festival and its role in the Louisville community
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills are essential to manage multiple projects, as well as excellent communications skills.
  • Must be able to work with deadlines. Must maintain a valid driver's license.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

The incumbent must have computer skills. Experience with the following types of software and/or Windows based applications is preferred: word processing, Internet, e-mail, Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, social media platforms and content management systems. Photography, videography, and graphic design experience a plus.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

  • Hybrid – remote and office setting
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Occasional weekends during the festival season
  • While this is primarily an office role, during Festival season, this position will have increased standing and walking
